Mobile App Development

Compassion are a charity close to my heart personally having sponsored a child for decades as well as raising funds for one of their Water Projects for Uganda. So when I heard they required technical support building their very first mobile app experience I jumped at the opportunity to find a way to help out.

As it quite frequently the case a quick review of what was happening under to hood raised questions about the overall mobile app objectives so we took this opportunity to work with the in-house digital team to engage with all departments and even technology partners within the charity to establish long term strategy.

A guiding framework

Over the years I've built a framework which I've used to tackle projects like this one. It's a journey with key milestones hand-holds all those involved in collaborating and contributing through workshops, interviews and discovery of a project and their organisation. And as a picture can speak a thousand words here is the gist:

Kick-off + Discovery

During this phase it's important to ask not only the Why behind everything but also to be comfortable with questioning the Why Not to document the cost of staying still or the cost of status quo. Iterating through some concepts and ideas collaboratively. Just as there are no stupid questions there are also no stupid ideas.

Vision of the North Star

By reviewing the output from the Discovery phase, the worksop and the interviews it was possible to present a North Star vision that was anchored to the business objectives, digital maturity and technical delivery capabilities once the landscape had been surveyed.
